Most "LUMIX Tether doesn't see my camera" reports are not software bugs. They are cable problems. A charging cable from a phone box will power an S5II and never enumerate it as a PTP device. The spec that actually matters
LUMIX bodies with a USB-C port (S5, S5II/S5IIX, S9, S1RII, GH6, GH7, G9 II, BS1H, BGH1) negotiate a USB 3.2 Gen 1 or Gen 2 data link. You need a cable rated for data, not power delivery only:

1–2 m braided USB-C to USB-C (studio default)
The safest setup for an S5II or GH7 tethered to a laptop on the same cart. Choose a cable with a right-angle camera-side plug if you shoot on a tripod — it takes strain off the camera port, which is the part that fails first.
USB-C to USB-A for older laptops
Fine, but confirm the host port is a blue USB 3.0 port. A USB 2.0 host port halves live-view smoothness and makes Direct Save of large RAW files crawl.
Active optical or repeater extensions for 5–15 m
For overhead product rigs or a tethered stage camera, do not chain passive extensions. Use a single active USB 3.2 extension with its own power injection. Passive daisy-chaining is the number one cause of intermittent disconnects mid-shoot.
Tether over LAN instead

Fixing "camera not detected"
- Set the camera USB mode to PC (Tether), not PC (Storage) — this alone fixes a large share of cases.
- Swap in a known-good data cable before touching drivers.
- Plug directly into the machine, bypassing hubs and docks.
- Reseat the camera-side plug; lint in the USB-C port is common on location.

Cable care on set
Always run a tether support (a clamp or J-hook on the tripod leg) so the cable weight never hangs off the camera port. Coil over-under, never wrap around your elbow, and retire any cable that needs wiggling to connect — an intermittent cable will cost you a shot at the worst moment.
