Using LUMIX Tether with OBS Studio

LUMIX Tether is not a webcam driver and does not register a virtual camera device. What it does give you is a large live view window that OBS can capture. That is a legitimate route to a good-looking stream — with real limits worth knowing before you rely on it live.

Camera → USB → LUMIX Tether live view window → OBS window capture → OBS scene → stream, recording, or OBS's virtual camera into Zoom, Teams or Meet. Nothing in that chain needs a capture card.

1. Connect the camera and confirm live view is running smoothly in LUMIX Tether. Fix any stutter here first — OBS cannot improve a poor source.
2. Turn the live view display quality up as far as the connection carries cleanly.
3. Hide the application's overlay elements so the capture area is image only.
4. In OBS add a Window Capture source and select the LUMIX Tether window.
5. Crop the source so only the live view area is visible, then scale it to fill the canvas.
6. For meetings, start OBS's virtual camera and pick "OBS Virtual Camera" inside Zoom, Teams or Meet.

• Set exposure manually. Auto exposure hunting is far more visible on a stream than in stills.
• Fix white balance to a preset rather than auto, so the colour does not shift when someone moves.
• Use a shutter around double your frame rate to avoid stutter or flicker under artificial light.
• Power the body from mains through a DC coupler — a battery will not survive a long session.
• If the body overheats in long sessions, drop the recording resolution or add airflow.

• Latency. The preview is compressed and sent over USB, then re-captured. Expect noticeably more delay than a capture card.
• Resolution. You capture a preview window, not a clean full-resolution feed.
• Fragility. If the tether drops, your source goes with it. Add a fallback scene.
• No audio. Nothing in this path carries sound; use a separate microphone.

When to use a capture card instead

If you need low latency, full-quality 1080p or 4K, or a setup that survives a long unattended broadcast, take clean HDMI out of the camera into a capture card. Window capture is the right choice for talks, lessons, meetings and demos where convenience matters more than a few frames of delay.
