LUMIX Tether with L-Mount Alliance: Sigma & Leica Cameras
The L-Mount Alliance shares lens mount specifications between Panasonic, Sigma and Leica. It does not share tethering protocols. LUMIX Tether is locked to Panasonic LUMIX bodies — it will not see a Sigma fp, fp L, BF or Leica SL3 / SL3-S even though those cameras take the same lenses as your S5II.
What LUMIX Tether supports
Panasonic LUMIX cameras only: every S-series body (S1, S1R, S1H, S1RM2, S1M2, S1M2ES, S5, S5II, S5IIX, S9), every recent G-series body (GH5, GH5II, GH5S, GH6, GH7, G9, G9II), plus the BGH1 / BS1H box cameras. Anything outside Panasonic's catalogue is unsupported, full stop.
What Sigma owners use
- Sigma fp / fp L — Sigma's own SIGMA Capture Pro over USB-C. Free, Windows + macOS.
- Sigma BF — Capture Pro support added in 2025. Same workflow.
- Capture One supports the Sigma fp series since v23 for stills tether.
What Leica SL owners use
- Leica SL2 / SL2-S / SL3 / SL3-S — Leica FOTOS desktop tether (formerly "Image Shuttle"). Free from Leica.
- Capture One supports SL2, SL2-S, SL3 natively.
- Lightroom Classic supports SL tether directly (unlike Panasonic).
Mixed-brand studios
If you've got a Panasonic S5II and a Leica SL3 in the same studio, you'll run two tethering apps side-by-side: LUMIX Tether for the Panasonic, Leica FOTOS for the Leica. Pointing both at the same Direct Save / capture folder lets Capture One or Lightroom handle them downstream as a single session.
Why the alliance doesn't share tether protocols
The alliance covers the physical mount, electronic contacts and lens communication — that's why a Sigma 35 mm f/1.4 Art works perfectly on a Lumix S5II. Camera control protocols (PTP extensions, live view streams, exposure commands) are proprietary and predate the alliance by years. Unifying them would mean each manufacturer rewriting its firmware to a common spec; that work isn't on anyone's roadmap.
