LUMIX Tether on Windows

Windows-side issues cluster around three things: how the installer is run, how Windows manages USB power, and what Device Manager is actually reporting. Supported releases are Windows 10 (64-bit, 22H2) and Windows 11 (21H2 – 24H2).

1. Download from Panasonic and check the file name matches what their page lists.
2. Sign in with an account that has administrator rights and close other applications.
3. Windows SmartScreen may warn about a downloaded executable. Verify the source is Panasonic's own domain before continuing — that warning is exactly what protects you from a re-hosted installer.
4. Complete the wizard and reboot if prompted.

Connect the camera in PC(Tether) mode and open Device Manager. Watch the list while you unplug and reconnect:

• Nothing changes. Windows is not seeing the camera at all. The cause is the cable, the port or the camera's USB mode — not the software.
• An entry appears cleanly. Windows sees it; if the application still does not, check the version supports your body.
• An entry appears with a warning marker. Remove the device, unplug, reconnect and let Windows re-enumerate it.

The classic Windows symptom is a tether that works for a few minutes and then silently drops, especially on laptops. Turn off USB selective suspend in the active power plan, and in Device Manager clear "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on the USB root hubs. Then set the plan to high performance while shooting.

• Use a port on the machine itself. Docks and monitor hubs share bandwidth and often drop to USB 2.0.
• On desktops, rear ports are wired to the board; front-panel ports go through an internal header and are less reliable.
• Confirm the negotiated speed. A 480 Mbps link means live view will be poor regardless of settings.

Endpoint protection that inspects removable devices can interfere with camera enumeration. If a managed work laptop refuses to see the camera while a personal machine sees it immediately, that is the likely cause and it needs the IT policy changed, not a reinstall.
